Notes About The Poem

Still Trying To Write a Poem

To write in a way so it comes across With meter and rhyme so nothing is lost Sounds easy to most but Oh pray tell Like adding cadence and metaphor well But I'm no expert so I seldom comment I mostly enjoy reading without lament A finely crafted poem, a life of its own Effects me deeply, gets me in the zone Though I will admit I'm just an old softy Most that I've read did touch me subtly Since I was a young man with pen in his hand Tried to mimic the greats and think I was grand As the years rolled on I could see the truth I was just a fool who quietly seemed aloof Remembering the world how it used to be In a simpler time when Bards roamed free As something came from nothing we surmise I lived my life with all that it truly implies In the spirit of good fortune, I write in my rhymes And try to incorporate the feelings and times

Intriguing and philosophical work, WW! I think you're being waaaay too hard on yourself: you are, without a doubt, a very fine poet. Congratulations on your win! Regards, John.

Good Evening White Wolf. I believe you just did write a poem. Yes you did. Wonderfully expressed and executed. The rhyming was never forced. All is well within the entry completely. Have a great night.

We all struggle with meter at times, Wolf. IMO you are an excellent poet. Never stop writing!

Yeah, methinks I'll give up trying meter for a while and do what comes naturally, whatever that is? Lol! Thanks a bunch, Daniel /|\

It lacks in so many avenues but excels in gibberish, it was a forced write, which I'm no good at! But thank you for your gracious comment, Maria /|\

Nice try Budgie! If you believe for even a second what your father said, look up this dude who calls himself the White Wolf and read a few of his poems. You'll find some true artistry in his list. Read a few of those then write another one. It will be just as great. Keep the ink warm my friend.

Your poem touched me deeply especially the line about your father... I never was good at anything it was all about my sister never me so the way I have taken to writing has been a total shock. You are a fabulous writer this poem proves that. I posted a poem about writers block... I think you may enjoy it WW:-) hugs Jan xx

Good poetry takes work, doesn't it? And if your father told you, you were good for nothing it brings back memories of my own childhood when I was told I would only be disappointed if I really wanted to be a writer. It would be much nicer if parents thought more of what their children might be dreaming of than what they themselves had already decided what was best or because they wanted their children to end up being as disappointed as they themselves ended up being. Nicely done.

My friend, you are a fantastic poet, one of the best on this site. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is funny though, while reading this I saw myself in your words even down to what your father did say...yep, I know how that feels too. Well my friend, you are definitely good for a lot of things and poetry is high on that list. Keep writing and I will keep reading and learning.
