When I was young and innocent I thought the stars were just a bunch of celestial glow worms. Then Christmas took its meaning and I rejoiced in watching my father made up the Christmas tree, and right on top there, he'd put the loveliest star that glowed at night. Soon, I began to see the shooting stars and wishes came and went, some frivolous, some serious, but wishes I really dreamt. As time went on, I bought some books and learned of Saturn's rings, discovered Pluto and our neighbour Mars, and science fiction just became my fad. Till one day man made it to the moon, and shuttles flew up to outer space. Occasionally, disaster struck when astronauts died, and I did cry my heart for them. Finally, the probes began again, searching for the creation of man. That is when I realised how much is spent on useless information, just scientific facts, while hunger reigned all around the world. Now I wish I had never learned what stars were, and yearn to turn the clock back to my childhood when I thought that stars were just celestial glow worms meant to light the world.

This shows your love Victor for mankind. A retrospect of memories of stars and a new reflection of what is important. I hope your Christmas was fine...

The haunts of Edens tree of knowledge. Look but don't taste. I enjoyed the relevancy of your preceding and concluding lines. A welcomed Fave for me, Victor. Mahalo~William

Dearest Victor This is such a heartfelt and thought-provoking poem! I love how it captures the journey from the innocent wonder of childhood to the weight of adult realizations. The imagery of "celestial glow worms" and the Christmas star is so vivid and nostalgic. . A fave ...Hugs

This is different. I liked how your childhood mind thought stars as "glowing worms" - and can feel when innocence was lost.

Victor, wonderful poem, nothing like the magic world of a child's mind, then as we age reality shatters it, well done ~

I can remember viewing the stars with awe and wonder, as a child, too. Though space exploration is wonderful, it shouldn't be prioritized above the needs of suffering human beings. Lovely writing, Victor.

I like your poem. I agree; when we're young, there's magic in the sky.

A lovely write! Though many have great knowledge, it sometimes makes them dumber than a moon rock. God longs to share his wonder with us, to awe us, to draw us to Himself, as we come as little children. Beautiful, just beautiful! A fave!

Sweet take Victor. There is something to be said for child-like wonder. Jesus once said, "Unless you become like little children you will by no means enter into the kingdom of God." Fascinating premise

The nigh sky is always fascinating to see, better in wintertime when you don't get that summer haze and the skies are clear. Merry Christmas to you Victor. Tom
