STACY'S KEYS

Deborah and I were at a party recently. The kind of party where wine and friendship flow with ease. When the partying was over and it was time to leave… Stacy, a friend of ours, could not find her keys. We retraced her steps…we searched high and low.. we looked wide…and we looked far… until a voice inside my head told me to look underneath our car. And so…with the phone as my flashlight…I got down on my hands and knees and, sure enough, underneath our car…there were Stacy’s keys. She must have dropped them as soon as she arrived at the party… as best we could infer… and I didn’t see them when I pulled in over them and parked right next to her. Needless to say Stacy was relieved, ecstatic… her heart rate returned to normal…her mind was now at ease… and this should be the happy ending to the saga of Stacy’s keys. But a few weeks later, during Easter, I was filled with much elation when Stacy gave me a chocolate bunny…to show her appreciation. Yes, Stacy got her keys back…which, of course, has a certain appeal but I got a chocolate bunny…you tell me…who got the better deal! It seems to me those unexpected things we do for friends… no matter how big or small… In life…these are the most precious…the most endearing gifts of all. And I had to smile as I savored that chocolate bunny… knowing this fact to be true…. Yes, I’m the one who found Stacy’s keys… But…when you think about it, I’m the one who hid them too.
