Spotted Fawn
I spied a little spotted fawn
Cavorting, dancing on my lawn
With legs that seemed of rubber made
Or springs or airy wings instead.
He bounced, he played out in the sun,
He lept, he raced, was having fun.
He darted, wild, without a qualm,
Then heard a noise and dashed to mom.
O little one, I’m blessed, you know,
To gaze at you, to watch you grow.
A day will come to raise alarm;
For now, you’re safe here, free from harm.
Until then, dance, cavort, be free
And come again to visit me.
