Sounds of Civil War
I crossed the Fields of Misery
And wept in blood-let streams.
I saw the face of Terror
Frozen in a soldier's scream.
I heard the sound of laughter;
Children playing in the sun.
I heard the sound of thunder;
Clapping from a torrent gun.
I knelt with bitter silence;
Mute heroes washed ashore.
I heard the distant cannons
Chanting hymns of civil war.
