Five Bold Poets Bending The Poetry Genre - Read Poetry

Say what you will, and make it great, But if you're speaking words of hate ... I won't listen. Make your argument, stirred or calm, But said with words that hurt or harm ... I won't listen. Write your thoughts for all to see, But if penned with animosity ... I won't listen. Speak the truth, and speak it loud, But if you're with the hateful crowd ... I won't listen. Deliver your message, strong and true, But if it's vitriol you spew ... I won't listen. Your opinions may be all the best, But if they fail the malice test ... I won't listen. I know you want to change the world, But if insults are what you've hurled ... I won't listen. You may have wisdom, quite profound, But if spoken from a vicious ground ... I won't listen. YET ... If you shake the hatred FREE, And speak with sound integrity ... I ... WILL ... listen ... For you and I can save our race, If we just speak kindly, face-to-face ... And LISTEN.

I should have known this was your work, Greg. Outstanding! Great to see you here again...my fault that I should have mentioned in my contest rules that I wanted a new poem as of the date I ran the contest. Some of the others I gave a N/A but this is so good that I had to score it high. Congrats on your placement! Charlie

Greg this is timeless wisdom! I thought as I read it that the ink wasn’t even dry—it speaks to this moment! Then I saw the date and realized that this is a message for all time. So glad I read this today :)

Sound of Silence. Think that was a popular song. Some want to save all of the suspense, When you try to find sound of silence; With a guitar, Started to spar; Trying to see if I could find some hints.

Thank you, my good friend, that's very kind of you ... I am very proud of the message in this one, and it is a "note to self" as much as anything else, as I have my own hatreds that I'm constantly trying to shed. It is a daily reminder for me, (as I have memorized it and say it to myself as a sort of mantra), and I hope touches some other hearts. Blessings, Jo! :-) <3
