Sonnet To Winter - Shakespearean
Winds blow hard freezing water into ice,
the snow on roads and homes declare it's cold.
Our ways and keeps are squeezed as by a vise,
and winter makes us mind as we are told.
Good holidays with pine and mistletoe,
give way to raucous time on New Year's Eve.
Gift nicely tied with fancy ribbon bow,
then parties keep us late from taking leave.
On frozen lake or skiing slope some play,
with happy gambol people execise their sport.
In flashing skates, sharp runners rule the day,
and slalom prowess shines the hardy sort.
All know some winter days are often mean,
her disposition may well be obscene.
