Sonnet 37 'I Rumble Toward the Morning Every Night'

I rumble toward the morning every night. The eager Robin bids me, ‘it is Day!’ But I have lain awake since end of light. And though I send my Heart upwards to pray, I cannot find the Peace that passes measure, The Peace that would ensure my blissful sleep, The Peace surpassing any earthly treasure… A tranquil Sea as wide as it is deep. And so I wish – though wishing’s not allowed, I wish with all my heart that you were here! O! Never were so fervent cries so loud As these my heart sends, lone, into Night’s sphere! But, calm yourself, lad! There are others who, As much hurt, bend… but do not break, like you! 3/23/2019
