Something I Am Not

I value authenticity in friends.
Relationships for me run deep. They do
not crumble easily once strongly forged.
My friendships that are best go on and on.

My truest friends are frank, and boundaries
we barely know! We “let it all hang out.”
The good, the bad, the not so beautiful. . .
that’s how it goes between my friends and me.

Best friends can keep each other’s secrets too,
and when we give our word, we honor that.
It’s how I separate the wheat from chaff,
for something I am surely not is fake!

Hello Andrea Dietrich, friendship is hard to come by. it takes time to make friends. Best friends take longer to make yet when you have one the bond is strong. Have a nice day my friend.

Loved this one Andrea, it is pretty much how I view friendship too. I don't make friends easily and certainly not fast, it's a slow process! Friendships are built over time. Great write as usual!

Oh, it sounds heavenly, at least to my foreign ears. Although, based on the comments, English ears like this poem too. Exquisite words, clear meaning and only two enjambements unlike mine) Good luck in the contest, Andrea.

I have discovered that in a school if I can find one person who can keep a confidence, it is terrific. So far, I have only found one in every school. These become my true friends.

wow, I love that saying !!!! It's very true. This means I have very few "friends" actually. I had really close ones that have just vanished!!

I love every sentiment expressed and most certainly, wholeheartedly concur! So happy with this poem that I'm faving it. Cussing words, I wrote down the one you told me to read for blank verse and I can't find it (what? 20 minutes later?) Maybe this was it cause I certainly found the iambic pent.
