Someday

Someday, I’m gonna cross over those waters And leap up on the farthest shore, Plant my feet firmly in the glory land And, I won’t hurt any more. Someday, Perhaps on a cold, wintry day When I’m chillin’ right down to the bone, I’ll take my leave and cross that river Lots of folks will join me, I’ll not be alone. Someday, When I’ve finished here all that I can do I’ll lay aside all the things I’ve collected Put down the work I felt I had to do And hope, above all, it will be respected. Someday, All that matters will be that red-haired girl I hope to meet again on the other side, Where we will share once again our journeys She went before, so she’ll be my guide. Someday, She’ll show me all around the kingdom It won’t be anything like I always thought True freedom and the ability to transport, Filled with the things the Creator wrought. Written April 1, 2022

Thank you, Caren. I wrote an Ode to Deborah, yesterday, I think. Guess I'm in a romantic mood! I don't know why. At my age it doesn't do me much good.

You're not planning any trips soon, I hope, lol. There's been a theme here lately. But yeah, the destination is the great reward - to be in His presence, all else will pale.

I still live in my own home by myself, Jeff. I never want to give up my home or my ability to live in it. I do everything for myself, except I have a housekeeper who comes in twice a month to dust, do the floors, clean my kitchen, etc. I suppose I would probably go into a military home for the elderly if it ever came to that. I hope not. I have nieces in Florida who urge me to come and live with them, but I am resistant. As long as I am able I'll be right here. The body is a wreck, but fortunately my mind is sharp as it ever was. Now, what was it you asked about? (chuckling)

I'm sorry to hear about your health - that's no fun, I'm sure. I'm not trying to be nosy, but are you still living by yourself, or at a retirement community? My mother moved into a multi-stage (unassisted, assisted, nursing) community at 80 after being alone for many years, and absolutely loved it, but I know it isn't for everyone, both from a financial perspective, and from the perspective of giving up a home.

Jeff, I think a lot about death and dying. As a pastor, I was around it all the time. I'm 80 years old and in very poor health, so, it's on my mind a lot. The theme comes and goes. I try not to be morbid about it, but, yes, it is certainly on my mind and more so since losing my wife. No, I'm not planning that trip, but I'm prepared for it!

When we reach that final destination it will be one of great joy and those loved ones who have gone before us will be there to welcome us to our new home. Enjoy your weekend Milton. Tom

Oh, I'm convinced of this, Tom. I don't need any pearly gates or golden streets. I'll be happy to enter a spiritual life which will be much superior to this temporal one, we can hardly imagine it.

Very philosophical poem, my friend, Milton. Myself I am too close to immigrate to that kingdom above that I almost visited five months ago! I wish you long and healthy life. Be blessed.

Thank you so much, Demetrios. I don't want to cross that river any time soon, but I recognize the inevitability, and I approach it with a cheerful heart. I wish the same for you, my friend.

Thanks, Paulette, for your thoughtful and kind response to my poem. We all have thoughts of it at one time or another. It will come to all of us eventually!
