Snow Capped Wonder

snow kissed desert land
                                  ancient arms raised in wonder
                                      white-capped saguaro

Thank you, Stephan, it was truly amazing, and so much fun! Some of the schools started late, sort of a snow day, Ha, that is rare in these parts! :) It was expected, but a surprise for it to actually stick, usually it melts right away on a rare occasion that there is any snow at all, I mean, enough to build a little snowman?! Wow! And a saguaro capped in snow is something you just don't see every day :)

Lovely haiku. I see before me the vast stretches of the sandy desert and the saguara desert plant raising its arms.

Thank you Valsa, I'm glad I was able to convey a little of the amazing sight of this delightful, rare occasion, it was truly spectacular. In our region there is more desert flora, a riparian region than the sandier parts of the desert. It was like a fairyland, oh, it was so beautiful, and rare in these parts! My daughter drew a cute picture of a surprised saguaro with a snow cap, it is so funny. I may share it with this poem, if I can download it :)

Yes … yes ! How poignant and timely dear BJ ! Sights of snow on desert floor and trees . A surreal dreamscape to be cherished if only for a short moment in time . I have been away for awhile . So nice to return to this poem of yours . Hugs and blessings, Susan ;)

So true Susan, a dreamscape, exactly! It is so strange to see a saguaro with a cap of snow, not the snowy white Saguaro blossoms Arizonans adore so much...snow :D A very rare sight to behold, truly amazing. Hugs and blessings to you as well dear Susan, and welcome back :) <3

I’ve seen a dusting of snow at the Grand Canyon, but never that far south. Very descriptive and lots of memories of that part of Az. Lived in central New Mexico so a little snow was not uncommon. John

We do see snow in the Southwest region occasionally, it is rare, but is greeted with much joy when it happens. In 2008 there was a surprise snowstorm, it came in fast and was really startling. Everyone went from feeling the warm and cozy springlike weather to icy cold snow in about an hour's time. That was a bit scary. The next morning our car door was frozen shut. That was the most snow we had personally witnessed in the Southwest part of the state, it was rather alarming. It killed a lot of flora, mostly young growth. Snow is rare in these parts!

An image in every line, BJ. I know there was snow in unusual places this season. What an amazing sight to see-- snow covered cactus in desert lands. Well done!

Yes, very strange year, almost alarming, but fun for a little while in the desert regions. It was incredibly beautiful, and a bit startling, certainly not an everyday occurrence! I'm glad I was able to convey the imagery in words, it was absolutely captivating!

Those suckers get quite large. I used to stop in Arizona(southern) and walk out to them back when I was driving a truck. Nice write BJ. Hoping you are well:)

They are very tall, I love them. The Saguaro National Park is a beautiful drive, I can never grow tired of it, just awesome. I remember coming back to Arizona for a visit, when we had moved to another state. We were so excited when we caught sight of the first saguaro heading in toward Phoenix. We were really homesick, and that cactus was such a sight for sore eyes to us :)

Thank you Jo, it's an amazing sight to see snow in the desert, not an everyday occurrence, that's for sure! It is like a dreamscape when it happens, to see a snowcapped saguaro... that is very different!

I used to love cacti and grow them from seed. Too old now to bother. Lovely haiku.

Thank you Victor, I didn't have much luck with my cacti when I lived in a cold climate, and I never tried while living in the desert, they grow profusely and naturally. My grandmother grew tiny cactus and kept the sweetest little garden on a pretty little plant cart in her home, I only now remember that. I wonder what became of her little cactus collection, and how she even gathered them. I'm glad you like my poem. My daughter is working on a funny little cartoon of this poem, I may be able to get it up after she completes it :)
