Snakebite Children's Poem

SNAKEBITE Was a day I saw a deer Running up a hill On his tail there was a lion Running faster still Then I saw a purple bird Flying in the sky-- Didn’t see the sneaky snake who bit me in the eye! Clouds call me to see the sky Find dragons if I stare I like to do this on soft grass While balancing a chair. I swing until the tree is sad And fly to neighbors’ yards I squash their ripe tomatoes And flatten body guards I am always looking up Or peering down the hall That is why I stumble And down the stairs I fall Why can’t I remember? My thoughts should never stray I need to look around me When it’s time to play By Victoria Anderson-Throop 10-22-12
