Smoking
I gave up smoking years ago
And somehow, all along,
Each time I lit a cigarette,
It somehow just felt wrong.
I didn’t smoke for very long
And wonder why I started.
I guess I thought adulthood
Was the image it imparted.
For smokers nowadays, the laws
Have really made it tough.
So many places don’t allow
A person set to puff.
The last I heard, apartments
Won’t let renters smoke inside.
The health risks and the odors
Can no longer be denied.
It’s hard for me to reconcile
(Not even one small bit)
That I used to be a smoker –
Though I’m mighty glad I quit!
