sleep paralysis is something I've been through and its really one of the most terrifying experiences, when you feel like you are awake but cant move or speak or wake up. It definitely is like a waking nightmare. This is written for the contest sponsored by Constance. I chose " nightmare"

“Sleep paralysis is like a waking nightmare, except you can’t escape it.” – Unknown Tonight, when the jilted bells toll, my decayed soul sighs, I lay paralyzed beneath an estuary sky of thin fluffy ruffles- cashmere mattress of cotton coated clouds, with stories over time- like a silent slave chained to sinister darkness, within an ice-gold casket of nightmares, as my skin is folded, wrapped around, inside black chiffon clothe- this mind is held by ghosts, shivering from echoing terrors, whilst exhaling clusters of claustrophobic truth, searching for the fight between shackled knuckles, screaming, yet, I hear restlessness, questioning the angels of sleep; If this isn’t life after death, why do I hear springs sing seraphic symphonies of celestial showers? Perhaps, the blinding glow of drizzling diamonds, and ivory pearls of seven serene seas, are mere signs of heaven’s gate being unlocked. Although I can barely move, third eye keeps pacing faster than my shadowed voice, where I walk down the lane of delirious visions, wondering if this is my Silhouette in a realm of lies. For unwritten fate, has lines of my life quilted with silk across a pillow of fog, where consciousness is out of sight, rendered colour-blind, and my heart remains a thief in duress. But as I struggle to untie twisted thoughts between dusk and dawn, I find stars of relief, choking on mercy, wrapped in denial- I inhale moonlight, I am now awake.

I had sleep paralysis once.. it wasnt nice.. you have described it in the most scary way possible using clever word choices to create descriptions that are dark and disturbing...I like the ending where you wrote, I inhale moonlight, I am now awake... I hope you do not have to go through this again and can sleep peacefully... imagine if you started sleep walking.. that would be scary..

Dear Ink, I had never ever heard of sleep paralysis. It sounds surreal. Is there a known treatment for it? Best of luck in your contest and thanks for educating me.

dearest Ink--your poem with its meticulous imagery painted a terrible, nightmarish experience, one I felt along with you. Those kinds of dreams are indeed paralyzing for they seem so horrifyingly real. Our subconscious hands us so much to process during the night, sometimes indicative of the day's pent up feelings and emotions. I sensed the relief of finally waking up. So many outstanding lines...hard to pick one. I admire your poetic artistry. You're truly gifted! Have a splendid evening!

A FAV for my list, Ink. Your eloquent poetic words quickly pull the reader into your world and the reader is locked in just as your imagery describes the terrifying experience, the delight of things seen and heard, and the hope of Light as you return to the awaken state. Your ability to draw us into the reality of your experience is a gift to a wonderful poet, my dear friend. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feeling with us. Smiles, blessings, and Light be with you. Bill

Dear Ink, the detailed depiction of emotions clearly captures the dreadful strain. Your depiction of insomnia as a terrifying beast that occasionally invades us is excellent. Only you are capable of expressing this sensation so brilliantly. Being swept up in a cycle of frightening nightmares can be quite exhausting. Although not wholly gloomy the poem does end on a hopeful note. My dear friend, your creation is absolutely wonderful.

this mind is held by ghosts, shivering from echoing terrors----yet, I hear restlessness, questioning the angels of sleep---I hear the clamor of nightmare --it must be unbearable when you try yet can't fall asleep. Emotions brought to fore perfectly described the struggle, my friend. Excellent depiction, as always, Ink.

Insomnia is a fierce monster that comes to invade us on some days. But only you will be able to express it in such a capturing manner. "like a silent slave chained to sinister darkness, within an ice-gold casket of nightmares," ! Being in such a state plagued by nightmares is so exhausting. The poem is not all too dark, but there is glimpse of light at the end. Great poem my friend.

Superbly penned as always, IE. How to overcome sleep paralysis? ~ my view: look at the images manifest with nonchalant curiosity, refusing to entertain any fear.
