Six Summer Nectarines

Six summer nectarines
Nestling snugly in a bowl,
Lovingly and caressingly
Selected and arranged there
As if by a lover's hand.
Cool, flawless skin,
Firm, sweet, succulent flesh,
Curiously sensuous cleft,
And lush fruity perfume
Awaken in me,
Suddenly,
Unpredictably,
A vaguely conscious semblance
Of forgotten longings
Unabated,
And remembered passions
Unfulfilled.

Fruit can do that to you, Jim. I think that's why the Greeks lay around eating grapes all the time in old movies. :-) I liked your poem, my friend. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Thanks, Bill. Yes, grapes are quite healthy...but re the Greeks eating habits...perhaps they were just too lazy to stomp them into wine.

Thanks, S O. I wrote this piece a number of years ago, as I recall, and I don't think there is really an "analogy" here...and certainly, I do not have a "harem" with any number of "lovely ladies". This one is a bit weird for me, too, because I don't usually think about food in this way. Something must have set me off, but I can't imagine what it was at the time.

Thanks, Tom. I guess one man's fruit is another man's fantasy.
