Silver Threads

The wind billows the trees with god-forsaken draft, And rinses the limbs with splashes of rain. Zephyr's raging bluster brings forth storm's chaotic craft, Blowing silver threads to new starts again. Sailing without order, the threads land where they may---- On fences, on plants, on patio chairs. The small spiders, thus carried, will emerge in a day, And crawl past your toes to find a choice lair.

Dear Susan, I enjoy hearing from you and appreciate your comments. I often write on the animals in Nature. There are so many interesting stories in the wild world.

This is a great poem with imagery and metaphors. Malta has no deadly spiders, so I'm not afraid of them.

- A beautiful view of nature - Both the body and mind calm down when you surround yourself with nature, the relaxing effect is good to feel :) - The sound of the ocean waves is like balm for my soul - The spider's web is a work of art ... silver threads to cover with water beads ... a beautiful piece of jewelry :) - hugs

Thank you for your lovely salutation. You are 100% correct in that nature is relaxing. In fact, even writing about nature has the same effect. I think this is why I write.

I appreciate hearing from you. I become inspired by your words. The rain, that launched me into Silver Threads, is still falling. As you mentioned, the rain is falling softly now, like tears. May you have a perfect balance of rain and sunshine on your beautiful island.

Spiders certainly share our space on earth. Thank you for reading and commenting. I'm happy to inspire others.

Oh, I love this! It has a graceful yet eerie elegance to it. The first stanza sets up a vivid almost cinematic scene--wind rain and chaos interwoven with a lyrical quality. "Zephyr's raging bluster" is a lovely phrase giving the storm a mythic intensity. Then the shift in the second stanza is both unexpected and delightful. The image of spiders drifting on silken threads landing haphazardly and later creeping past one's toes is subtly unsettling--quietly ominous that sneaks up on the reader.

Thank you. Your positive reply has given me poetic strength. As usual, I had started the poem with a goal, then switched it when I remembered the spiders floating in the wind. Thus is poetry, always searching. Thank you so very much for following my spirals of the mind. Enjoy the beauty of March. Best wishes.

I raise my hat to anyone who can write an abab rhyme and not make it appear that the words have been shoehorned in..and have it flow..and tell of great imagery. So..I raise my hat to you Hilda..or I would do if I was wearing one. :). Cheers - Gary

"Sailing without order, the threads land where they may---- On fences, on plants, on patio chairs." If rain is accompanied by wind, the silver threads will land down without order. Spiders get disturbed in their webs and crawl down. Beautiful images, dear Hilda.

Nature helps survival in many ways. Spiders are doing something right because they have existed for a long time. I'm glad you enjoyed this poem. I send happy wishes your way.

Great poem, a spider's silver thread. To me, the storm is a once chaotic, but also, just as it should be, to disperse the young arachnids. Kind an interesting blend of disorder and order in nature. Kind of like forest fires, maybe.

Hmm...will read again -- things survive...but constant hammering makes survival a greater challenge when we are older. Age is on my mind a lot lately. "Sailing without order, the threads land where they may---- On fences, on plants, on patio chairs. The small spiders, thus carried, will emerge in a day, And crawl past your toes to find a choice lair." A smart little spider, going with the flows. Amazing imagery. Wonderful poetry!

Dear Hilda, What a mesmerizing piece! The scenes of silver threads drifting on the wind was both delicate and powerful. I love how nature’s chaos brings new beginnings such as spiders seeking their place, much like poetry finding its home. A truly enchanting read! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
