Silent Applause

Dipped in frenzied simpatico
      as easily as tango's release
the lyrics changed course
         toppling over stances
notes were stacked
              against the flight
stomping on horizontal
           chaotic dancers,
music beating shrillingly
              off key serenades
wafting midst dark leather & feathers
  tripping edges' rapturous chants
of deep bass in the chest,
                giving off sultry chills
covered in heavy cloaks of jazz & finesse,
strutted neath the pallor
              of indigo moonlight
teetering on ledges of flimsy
   tightrope convictions
          holding no culpable meaning,
floated til whorling muses stumbled
                   to inevitably crash & burn,
whilst same tunes bellowed deafening
     guttural melodies injected
                into symphonic lures,
 played like a fiddle at
     chords of quarter tone sharp,
complicated steps spun 'round & bout
          faltering over harmony's concerto,
 cacophonous symposium brought music
                    to a screeching halt,
all that remained was silent applause

As if I watched you do the Argentinian tango through the blinds and the music was jazzy and complex and although you danced so magnificently I wasnt allowed to clap because I wasnt supposed to be there.

My friend, I certainly hope that Silent Applause didn't mean you also silently disappeared? I miss you :)

Flimsy tightrope conviction, James. Paloma, you always walk on the edge of sixth dimensional surrealism. Peering into the window of your fertile imagination is like watching fireworks while the heavy construction machines sing their mechanical songs. There, my machine just gave you a silent applause of approval for this most original poem. Love and hugs to you, dear. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Wow, Paloma. I am blown away by this... there's a certain richness to your poetry that sets you apart from other poets I have read. You know how to paint a most intriguing picture for the reader with your words. I really liked the lines, "guttural melodies injected, into symphonic lures..." immense work! Always, Laura

Wow! just finished reading this and emphasized the climax with a warm round of applause...four pairs of questioning eyes looked at me, as if trying to work out what's wrong with me!! You did very well, maestro...you conduct both music and dance with real gusto:) Warm regards // paul

7. Magnificent phrasing and word pairings. Much of this poem also reads excellently when the line order is reversed. : )

To me it feels like an evening of dance and music ended up in cacophonous loudness and dissonants, only followed by silence. I love it how your poem demands me to think and interpret :)

A concerto of chaotic coolness collected creatively and crafted in choral chords of poetic crescendos. That means amazing, in case you didn't know. :)
