Sempre Con Voi
Looking down
On a bundle of rags
Pressed against the mighty bronze door,
He espies the outstretched hand
And looks into the the pleading dark eyes.
Sitting alongside is the carefully crafted
Cardboard inscription.
This has all the makings of theatre
Where the setting plays its part
Like a symphony
To open his purse strings.
Looking away
He strides on
To gaze at the treasures
So lovingly sculpted,
So brightly painted
Against the artificial backdrop
Where the setting plays its part
Like a symphony
To open his purse strings.
