Shut Doors, Dear

Shut all thy sensuous doors: Eyes, ears, mouth in thy mortal town Shut all doors, and draw blinds down, For thou live now in a world of wars. Shut thy eyes: thy front doors That Oedipus shut forever for his shame Of the dreadful deeds done, and his name; Shut thou them down to oust biting sores. Shut thy ears: thy two side gates And all side doors and windows and blinds To stop the flood of wild, bemoan in minds That has drowned trails, rails and thy mates. Shut them all and other gates too, So thou may not behold how they trail Hundreds of dead bodies; how they bewail And plead dear hands to hold and say adieu. (Enclosed Rhyme) Date: August 4, 2020
