She Waits By the Window

Daily she sits by the window Hoping today will be the day he will return home Leaving the window only when the sun goes down To return again tomorrow alone Each day as the sun begins to set Tears fill her eyes “He will be home tomorrow” she whispers As she walks away and quietly cries She stares out the window of the nursing home Waiting for her beloved to return from war Sadly, that day will never be He died on the battlefield fifty years before

Lovely, so many people have done this and always will live in hopes that a loved one will return home safe and well. Heartbreaking.
