She Trades Her Wings

His arms hold her captive in their embrace,
drifting through the fabric of time and space.
For swaddled in an ebony cocoon,
She can't shed her wings till the next full moon.
Her beauty emphasizes her sad state,
a creature of feelings; She chose her fate.
And defiant to the bitter-sweet end,
She remains rigid, refusing to bend.
She'd fallen in love with a mortal man,
and so, her descent from on high began.
For fairies have to be above such things,
or give up their precious gossamer wings.
She should not have let this affair begin,
returning his love was a grievous sin.
But her heart's desire would not be denied,
for such love was impossible to hide.
Shedding her wings and immortality,
Her passion overrides reality.
And she trades her wings for a human heart;
even though it is tearing her apart.
