She Smiled a Smile

She smiled a smile that reached not her eyes, Who can know what beneath her smile lies? She smiled a smile her hurt to disguise, Who can understand her life's dark skies? She smiled a smile to hide her heart's cries, Who will care to listen to her sighs? She smiled a smile despite hope's demise, Who can see her soul's tears crystallise? She smiled a smile as a compromise, Who can feel how she does agonise? She still smiles a smile to tranquillise, Who can read her soulful smile's surprise? 11/20/17

I have worn this smile that you spoke of so poetically and truthfully. This is not lighthearted, but a truth that applies to all of us at some point or another. A great job, Jo, really touched me. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Hi Jo, This is a well written introspective piece. I "was" this girl at one point in my life. You conveyed the message of a girl whose smile didn't reach her eyes very well. I really like the "monorhyme" form. Excellent job:-) Alexis

Jo, great introspection, well done, sometimes the brokenhearted smile but they can never hide the the pain that lies within their eyes, that window to the soul.

Extremely well penned. It covers all the different smiles a human face can manufacture.

Beware of the one whose smile doesn't extend to their eyes. Your monorhymes are many and well chosen. Nice write, Jo.
