She Sits On The Outer Looking In

She sits on the outer looking in As the party is in full swing Another family gathering With all the happiness and laughter it brings Her family….children and grandchildren Her reason since their birth Nurturing, worrying and loving them Her purpose on this earth She reflects back on their younger years The days of prams, parks and play Of afternoon naps and cuddles Forever sharing their days Always being needed The apple of their eyes Knowing their lives entirely There to comfort their cries Adults and teenagers now The years have brought changes No longer knowing them as she did Absent are the daily exchanges Without question their love for her has not altered Yet the circle of life forever turns She sits on the outer looking in A stifled tear falls as her heart yearns

ooooh! Such poignancy in her words. No doubt your children still love you and you, them. Yet the dynamic changes as everyone gets older. I can understand those feelings and can relate to those stifled tears. hugs, Sara

This is says so much about our society. And my blunt terms plainly and openly is. It Sucks. In our family ,you take care of the elderly till they die you don’t move across country and leave your parents somewhere to die. I think that sucks ..we’re too busy, writing poetry and making comments .They are too old and too hard to take care of! When my family moves to Tennessee. I will be going with them and living with them until I die..all us will be family grandchildren dogs, cars, pangie xoxo

Hi Pangie….Thank-you for your very passionate reply. Unfortunately, there are times as we age we feel on the outer looking in. A lot of lonely overlooked older people out there! Thankyou dear Pangie! Debx

A very hard poem to read, knowing the truth within its lines, Deb. My biggest challenge is dealing with loneliness and isolation as I age. I was always so active and involved in everything, now it's all online or nothing. It's sad and heartbreaking at times. Makes a person wonder what the purpose of living on is. Blessings to you, my dear precious friend. Big hugs, Bill

I know Bill ageing isn't always kind and comes with its issues, loneliness, fear and disappointments etc but it is also beautiful with its wisdom, clarity and appreciation. Thankyou my dearest lovely Bill Baker….Debx

It seems, somehow, we can make do with reductions in most everything -- juggle the budget, rearrange time...but love distanced, separated, is devastating to heart and soul. Very well phrased poem. Add my tear to the pot. Blessings my friend.

I read about how large America is and how often our children depart to a far-off land. Yet we still need their cuddles. Lovely poem. I am getting too few reads and have almost given poetry up. Forgotten me?

A wonderful write Deb, sadly it is how it is, life moves on though pain it inflicts. Nothing can steal the love one has for their mother or grandmother, it’s there in heart for ever and ever… Beryl

Dear Deb, you have captured the bittersweet emotions of a mother watching her family grow and change. I love the imagery of love, nurturing, and longing is deeply moving, resonating with anyone who has experienced the passage of time within a family. Your wonderful artistic words beautifully convey the eternal bond between a mother and her children, while also acknowledging the inevitable shifts and transitions that come with life's journey. Deb, what a heartfelt reflection on the complexities of love and the enduring presence of family ties. A FAV - Blessings, Daniel

Deb this is no doubt a Favorite and such a true heartfelt piece for many. It had me in tears for all the thoughts I could relate in your words. Definitely POTD quality. So in depth into what many experience when the children grow up and leave the nest or even friends for that matter. I am so glad I stopped by to read this Heart touching piece by you. Your love and kindness you have inside you can only bring out such great work such as this. God bless you and a big hug...
