He dealt death and devastation, in the defense of his nation. And soon morphed into a machine, fueled by belief and caffeine. Obeying orders he'd enforce, he snuffed out life with no remorse. Often brutal yet efficient, patriotism was sufficient. But taking his eyes off the prize, reality opened his eyes. And realizing what wars wrought, he feels the death of those he shot. Soldiers are supposed to deny their true feelings and never cry. So he blocks out the blood and pain, trying to feel human again. But lying in bed late at night, he reflects on what's wrong and right. And falls asleep fighting a tear, unsure if it's from shame or fear.
