Shallow End of Sleep

Sunbeams interact with dreams
at the shallow end of sleep.
And reality awakes;
if it isn't buried too deep.
Drowsily reaching over,
you half expect he'll be there.
But his pillow's all you find,
where his scent clings to the air.
His death brought grief to your door,
but your tears have mostly dried.
For it wasn't that long ago
that you laid in bed and cried.
You struggle with depression;
willing yourself to get up.
And clinging to normalcy;
you drink from a half-full cup.
You cage your raging anger;
whenever it barks and nips.
And peruse faded photos
that bring a smile to your lips.
Faith enters your grieving heart,
where hope slowly starts to grow.
And although it's gradual,
its effect begins to show.
