Shadows Shorten
Winter has its dull days
when the weather turns itself off,
but then there are the bone-cracking gales
and the few bright days
when the sun runs across the snow.
Slowly long hours will shuffle out of their daydreams,
goose-grey skies will learn to fly again,
with any luck, tell-tale breezes
will flirt with summer skirts.
