Shades of the Past
They cross the currents
of my dreams and scurry on
toward ending night.
Shades of the past are closed shut
as memories fade from sight.
Still my heart holds them
like paper stems past their worth
and the coming night
will carry them once again
across boundless minds’ eye sight.
My heart breathes relief
as I loose them to the winds.
Swallowed by the night,
they drift silently away,
shades drawn, out of sight.
