Seventeen and Willy's Wings
A Son ~ far away ~ too far
South Dakota ~ now his Wedding Anniversary, "Seventeen"
here in Nebraska, the Midwest
time evolves ~ into space!
Miles and miles ~ the ducks fly over
they have a port,
almost their own Country, so free
to choose their habitat, now in pieces from the flood!
Their homing, people know
and an anniversary . . . seventeen years
go on ~ unnoticed, until the numbers
rise, and we look back!
Calculating, all our difficulties, in a stack
and we forget ~ those little times
God was there, through all the flack
like neighbors, friends, they counter-act!
Just yesterday at the grocery swop
and later on to the Co-op,
the clerks seemed distanced, just a job,
a catfood purchase, nutrients robbed!
Remarkably, one employee's grace
was prevalent ~ I said to case
"The Wings aren't at the door no more"
the guy just smiled ~ all o'er his face!
"Just send a cake" I thought, "Espree"
the kids will love, their heart's still free!
But here within, the weight in me
the maybe next time ~ there I'll be!
A quiet knock upon the door
I thought, a friend, my interest soared
The Iowa hunter ~ Willy's name of
just beaming ~ apptitude seem scored!
He pointed to a black trash bag
filled up ~ he held, something inside . . .
"You hunt for ducks, the breast just nab"
the camp note left, as to confide!
While my cats linger at my door,
nothing to do ~ or just live for,
"their lazy" ~ waiting ~ my food store
while only sleeping, more & more!
A bargain strike, the neighbor's lore
is super full ~ they hunt each day
and all but "breast" they throw away,
I'll ask for what is left ~ OK!!
"There's seventeen" ~ my neighbor spoke
with feathers, "wings", minus the quack
you only had to, only ask,
God answers need, he sees your task!
Now seventeen, the numbers lack
became full blown, my heart, took back,
how kindness seems to interceed,
the darkest moment, to retrieve!
The smallest gift can fill a need
that goes unnoticed, yet proceeds
to show His scope ~ God's faithful reed
through love and witness, take the lead!
Now Seventeen will always bring
a numbers witness to esteem!
