Seven Degrees - Editted

Where to? Just to walk?
Dressed in long garment like ghost?
A question mark in purse… gold!?

She preferred a walk!
Missed her crooked edgy boat!
Just went to walk down the road…

Looking at picture
In the hands of the painter
Van Gogh’s mystery nurtured

He drew her prayer…
In her purse she did question
Why!? Was just a tough question

Wondering how could
That happen in night’s second!
Hefty waters dashing… haunt!!

The chimney trembles!
An earthquake wakes up fixed days!
See a muddy unpaved ways?

Though all wide paved roads
Reach Britania’s bay… north?
Shown on left corner’s foot’s coy

Enlarge picture here…
Her garment is night-time sleep
See the shooting stars racing heap?

Umbrella is closed
Carried lest harsh rain is dropped
Fall signed surprises to roll…

The roof is breaking!
But picture of landscape’s tweak
Is seven degrees… earthquake’s squeeze!

What caused that earthquake?
Look close… hills’ dance! Wave!
Tsunamis launch big headache…

The sun’s round high rays
Amazing view! Beneath slate!
Above roof tops water stays!

Can’t take my eyes off
That white house’ name looks… hello!
Van Gogh meant… white house we know..!

The cleverest knew
Floods and blubbers can dash through
The Atlantic Ocean’s see through..!

Since past styles distort
But now all styles run the show
The broken boat… does not flow!

The ark as in boat..!!
Seems like Noah’s ark… didn’t row!
Got broken on hills… the road!

Looks like Broken Wa-
gon town fits show on sheer Van
Gogh’s print… water’s sketch grade’s class!

Under her smooth feet
Hilltops’ visage… very week...
Vast landscapes flattened… see here?

Till water recedes…
With hefty tears of few years
Trotting in Van Gogh’s tart dreams.
BY: Nadia F. Shahwan – September 2009. The portrait of “White House at night” by Vincent
Van Gogh was the inspiration of my poem-Seven Degrees.

You give us much to ponder in this write, far beyond the basic elements of the Van Gogh painting. Just like to boat (and ark) in your story, our ship of state has been encountering turbulence lately and the White House sits in the middle of the turmoil. Amazing how profoundly this affects the reader to think beyond the surface. Nice work, Nadia! Love, Carolyn

Dear Nadia, I finally found your poems. Sorry to be so late, but I have a terrible time finding my way around in Poetry Soup and not enough time to learn. I think your poems are wonderful and cover a great deal of ground. You write about earthquakes in both poems. Are there many earthquakes where you live? I think it’s a wonderful idea to get inspiration from great paintings, something I often do myself. Thanks for a great read. I’m looking forward to reading more of your poetry. Love, Amy.

I've discovered last week another poetry web called "olsegum" who pasted my poem SevenDegrees as theirs and got it patented without my acknowledgement. Poetrysoup denied knowing olsegun but then advised me to contact them. I editted SevenDegrees few days ago in poetrysoup which discqualifies olsegum's ownership of my own choka poem. I demanded poetrysoup to get the patent's seal visible on all my poems including kimo&haiku but it didn't obey my request. Should poetrysoup be disqualified or not.

This poem makes sense to me somehow when I read it side by side with the painting. That question mark gold purse is clever, it does kind of look like she's carrying an upside down question mark. Strange to me how the comet streaks aren't readily visible, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. I can see you take off deep into your imagination with the earthquake and tsunami, the water above rooftops, noah's Ark crashes on hill. All these vivid images derived from one woman's mysterious walk.

It is amazing what you wrote here, Nadia. Van Gogh is an endless dream for poets lieke you. I myself have experienced quite a few earthquakes and luckily never got hurt. Thank you for your comment and please also comment on my poem "So far". I am quite busy at the moment because I will move to Zittau in Saxonia by start of December (near the Czech and Polish border). Keep on your excellent writing...Gert

What tremendous inspiration you received from Van Gogh's great painting! As a former boat owner, I could feel the apprehension of this woman walking down to find her boat destroyed by the earthquake-caused tsunami. Very vivid description in this outstanding poem, Nadia! Love, Carolyn
