Serenity - Lotus of My Soul Premiere Contest Winner

Serenity - Lotus of My Soul Too long, my soul, Uninvited city noise And fleeting seconds Separates us Then robs us of moments To meet through blended rhapsodies In pure hues of solitude And soft shades of serenity Yet, reassuring arms gather us into A bright hallowed heaven sent sanctum, Bidding rest with folded hands in sacred stillness When I forget how dearly You need holy calm in sacred space On mountainsides of fluttering aspens Wearing diadems of radiant gold - Taking in infinite tranquility From iridescent neon sunsets; Turning from sizzling heat in summer’s breathing - Searing innocence with masked skepticism – From chaos to grace By murmuring lakeshores Resting – rippling – undulating – Awaiting soft sung cradlesongs of consecrated renewal; You turn your eyes From the hallucinations dancing in the life of city lights More enchanted by hypnotic snowstorms Of falling leaves gathered at your feet Sipping evening spice As velvet twilight extends - swaddled into approaching darkness A spreading smile of prayerful peacefulness – Angelic invitation to become one again – To hint of amber tinted moons When zephyrs change their cloaks to cloudy vesper veils, When mists ride on their whispers to leave a glittering sheen On the abundance of the blameless open hand; My soul let us renew our vows - venerated unity in solitude – Let us cling! Let us toast! Let us celebrate with the venerable wine Of ripened, humble everlasting fermentation Our long desired prophetic reunion Innocent as the lotus in moonlight.

Your every line, Sam, accentuates the simplicity extending compliments to the exceptional, whereto US' acknowledgment has been duly noted, my friend. Compliments indeed in this incredible and notable verse--good news proffers good news as civil defense yesterday lessened islander's concerns, Aloha William

What a solemn picture of serenity you have painted. "Taking in infinite tranquility/ From iridescent neon sunsets; Turning from sizzling heat in summer’s breathing - Searing innocence with masked skepticism – From chaos to grace"- The shift from all these take you to a state of blessed calm like a lotus in moonlight. Beautiful....Congratulations, Sam on your trophy win.

Thank you so much sweet friend. I think, in many ways, you probably relate to this poem as I wrote it one summer night in the mountains of Colorado! Whenever I read it I am transported back to those mountains that I so love. Your mountain home is also one of my favorite mountain places though very different from the Rockies! Sending you blessings of sweet joy and hugs!

You have a lot of lovely imagery in your poem, Sam. Contest entries were supposed to be 4-14 lines or your entry would have placed higher. Congrats on your honorable mention. Best wishes, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn! Thank you for your gracious placement! One of these days I'm going to learn to read! I was so focused on the theme,(which I loved) I didn't think about line count. The poem could have been adjusted had I used my brain! Hope you are doing well. All the best!
