SEPTEMBER FALLS

September always brings it back to me.
Each year the memories return again.
Perhaps those same thoughts stir your memory,
Though maybe you no longer feel the pain
Every time the leaves turn red and gold,
My thoughts inevitably turn to you.
But, as they fall, my aching heart turns cold.
Everything reminds me we are through,
Reminds me of the day you walked away.
For it was in September you moved on.
And, though it was five years ago, that day,
Long afterwards I can’t believe you’ve gone.
Let October come in to set me free.
September always brings it back to me.

Bryn, a big CONGRATS on your very well-deserved win with this skillfully written, expressive, moving acrostic. As one who got left behind on Christmas Day years ago, I FEEL the theme! Janice

It's never easy, Janice, but Christmas Day! That's really cruel. Mine was 45 years ago so I have had plenty of time to get over it.

wow, this is so awesome. Your bonus point for sonneteering even gave you a slight edge over my other first placements. Excellence here!
