Notes About The Poem

Self-Sentenced Solitude :POTD:

Locked within the confines of my mind’s dark cell,
Both convict and captor, a self made hell.
Each thought a shackle, every memory a bar,
Confined by my own mind, a prisoner of psychological scars.

In this self-imposed exile, I am utterly alone,
A solitary figure locked in a world of dark, cold stone.
Forsaken by hope, abandoned by light,
I dwell in the shadows, a prisoner of everlasting night.

These lonely walls echo my silent screams,
As I fight with demons, trapped in dreadful dreams.
I reach out for redemption, but find none there,
In this self made prison, my remorseful soul lays bare.

For I am the architect of my own demise,
Sentenced to solitude, beneath storming skies.
Cramped within the confines of my own creation,
Condemned to a life of eternal damnation.

Dwelling in shadows and staying in those dark corners of the mind, is a dangerous place to be. ( Let some light in, please ! ) I understand it may be difficult for some. Sad indeed, when this happens. Your thoughts are deep and powerful, all at the same time. Congratulations Edward, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. ~ Brandy

Ah, Brandy, your words are a light that illuminates the very depths of my shadowed soul. Indeed, the darkness holds a perilous allure, a siren’s call to those who dwell too long within its grasp. I thank you for your gentle reminder to let in the light. Your understanding and kindness are a warm flame to my haunted heart. My deepest gratitude for your congratulations my dear. May your days be ever filled with the light and warmth you so graciously extend.

Hi Edward, What a dark but poignant poem you have composed here sir! "each thought a shackle, every memory a bar", so wonderfully illustrates what bogs the human condition down when we become too self-absorbed which so many of us do. Congratulations on this POTD!

Thank you so much Nancy for your kind words and thoughts!!! Us humans have a tendency at times to really get caught up in our heads and sometimes the shadows from the past come to haunt again. Dark times are intermittent and thankfully don’t last too long. Hope you are having a wonderful day my dear!!

Hello Edward, What a great poem on the aspects of how one's own mind can become a prison. I liked how you showed how our mind leads to a state of unwanted loneliness and suffering. It is tragic how we allow negative thoughts and self-imposed isolation to take control of our brains. Congratulations on POTD! - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

There is no escaping the prison in your head!! I am my own worst enemy. Most days are a struggle. However, the true self can only be discovered in the darkness. Within the confines of my own troubled soul, lay an infinite reservoir of fortitude, resilience, and self-comprehension. To truly understand oneself, one must be plunged into the deepest, darkest depths of the psyche, to fight the demons of doubt, violent villains and specters of solitude. Only after conquering your shadow, can you be crowned KING of self.

Dear edward, This is a fave for me; every word; everything youv said here is just soul hitting! Powerful! Self sentenced solitude! That line i would love to use in a poem: brilliant! Sometimes we don’t realize why we push ourselves into a self constructed cage, but if only they knew, the ones that chose silence and solitude, know what it feels like to be rejected abandoned hurt etc! I see you lik dark poetry! This is my kind of poetry! And it reminds me of silent one too: fave!

Hey Hilda, You correct my dear, “They” always have something trite and witty to say, they are so full of genius and opinions. We would be so much better off if we just listened to them!! I’ll never learn. I am so pleased you enjoyed this poem Hilda!! And to have it as a FAV!!! I am most grateful dear. Thank you for your support.
