Luke 14:11 (KJV) “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Meekness reveals to me assurance that I’m wrong When I don’t let go of grievances, When I let bitterness distract me from loving, When I remember only those things that discouraged, When my memories are filled with contempt When my recollections are covered in doubts When everywhere I look and all that I seek…. Are reasons to applaud my own deeds and ignore The good deeds of another who has left me feeling More blessed than I could have ever imagined…. When I don’t hear the hearts that I encounter And overlook the wonderful in another soul, I find myself left with only greed that I can’t defend, Selfishness that boasts of the way I fail to give, Egotism that overwhelms me with a sense of pride, That dark and dangerous vanity that reveals my lack of sanity When I can’t seem to understand the beautiful In another’s light, another’s heart – another’s soul I fail to give back, from within, that part of me that Jesus Prepared, the part of me that He guided and directed, The part of me that only love could have perfected… And, only LOVE can lend to another heart, another soul, Another who needs the grace that I have been shown! Never let me become so self-flattering, self-righteous and self-serving That I fail to reach out to another soul who needs to see… The ways I have grown since I gave my heart to the ONE who knows, Without Him beside me, without His love… I’d never be able to become Humble enough to let go of myself so that I might give to someone else!
