Andaree

Created by Andrea Dietrich with a rhyming scheme AaBbCbcbbaA. The first line and the last line are both the same 11- syllable line. This form decreases in line length with each line getting progressively smaller by 2 syllables until reaching the one-syllable word in the middle of the poem. Then each of the lines increase progressively by 2 syllables until the final line of eleven syllables is met: (11/9/7/5/3/1/3/5/7/9/11). The middle word should be a word very important to the theme. It appears somewhere in the title or can be the title itself and that middle word also rhymes with lines 3 4 8 and 9. Centering the poem is also required for an hourglass effect!

having hit bottom, you’re convinced life’s unfair and beseeching God, you turn to prayer you're walking down a tightrope a slippery slope searching for hope feeling more unable to cope and yet, you’ve no time to mope you're hurting, but no one seems to care having hit bottom, you’re convinced life’s unfair (Andaree) 12/8/2018

This form is unique, Emile, and I admire the way you employ short, powerful phrases to carry your message. The quest for hope is quite clear, though the images are dark. Congratulations on your win. There were many wonderful entries to this contest and nearly all of them were difficult to rank. Best wishes, Carolyn

I love your Andaree! It is amazing to me how unfair life is to those who have thrown theirs away in the bowels of addiction. Nicely penned, my friend.
