FIRST PLACE

__________________________________________

I walked past ancient tombs and graves past swaying green trees and birds singing a symphony to where they buried you under a sea of roses I find the scent both glorious and sickening at the same time you were my secret lover and friend we shared magical moments laughing, crying holding each other in sorrow when I found out you died I stood in the shower and cried and cried I walked around a ghost for days thinking and remembering you always brought me roses oh, if I kept them all they would be a sea of roses I took a few from your grave and they are in a glass on my dresser wilted, withering I heard and read that the airplane you were piloting crashed no survivors, ending of story but it is not . . . because I visit your grave as your secret lover my tears falling on your stone the wind is strong today taking my long hair, pulling it I feel your fingers smoothing the strands and hear your whisper "I will always love you" and the birds are singing us a symphony

WOW!!! Congratulations on your win. What a beautiful yet sad write/story. Love your line, "I stood in the shower and cried and cried." Over the years I have done this many times. Some how peace shows up. Have a fun/blessed weekend as you write away..................

Nice straightforward romance with lovely language and imagery. Especially..."the wind is strong today taking my long hair, pulling it I feel your fingers smoothing the strands" Xo

A highly romantic poem stained with tears, so deep and poignant. Amid the symphony of birds and the sea of roses, let your love thrive till eternity. Beautiful poem, dear Constance.

I've just read this aloud and have found it a strange experience. Yes, it's about to ghost but it's also about your experiences. Can I say I enjoyed it? Because enjoyment is not the word. But one appreciates. One appreciates. I assume many people read poems aloud - their own and others'.

That’s lovey, yet sad too Constant, I love to read poems that keep one guessing if the words are true, the answer stays a secret with you, the poet… Beryl

Beryl, thank you for the beautiful comment, and compliment, I will keep my secret, but let me just say, I find I write better with themes from my own life, that is where the emotion comes from ~
