Sea Glass

Sea Glass 7-11-24 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sea Glass On strands and shoals, waves of rolling tides, Neither pro nor biased, Tumble castoff vessels, emptied of purpose, Into scattered shards of sharp amber remnants Piercing tender soles. Bits of blue and green edges, Rub up against mica’s pearls, Refined by fool’s gold - Brokenness in metamorphosis By stoic tidal pulses And lurching tide’s undulations. Discarded gypsies from bonfire’s passions Laughter, nostalgia and desolate strolls Gestating in a matte chrysalis, Life’s thesaurus honed into shapeless dregs By gritty fingers rising From the cold fire of the abyssal plains.

Sea glass is so beautiful and exciting to find, especially the blue pieces I think. I love your beautiful imagery, it makes me feel like I am sitting at the beach, smelling, feeling, relaxing and smiling. Your second stanza is my favorite Sam.

I love the intro, Sam. I wasn't fortunate enough to learn of sea glass, never heard of it, until the contest. You've covered so much in a few stanzas, the imagery and metaphors are brilliant, as I am angered about the polluted oceans, (plastic) beautiful sea glass doesn't seem to bother me. ha. Did you place? I'm faving! xo

Rubbing my bare foot as I read: Piercing tender soles. Love the imagery in second verse. That third verse invites us to look into the fire, examine the past…so much there. A fave, Sam!

Hi Kim! I am so deeply touched by your wonderful, thoughtful response to this poem. I kept thinking that before it became sea glass these bits of glass were shards from broken bottles that could pierce our "souls - soles." I an so honored by your fav. Many thanks! Sending you many blessings!

This has a haunting feel to it...I can picture the glass rubbing on feet, physically and spiritually...some things just get to you. Gorgeous writing, Sam :)

Thank you so much, Paige. Having grown up on the beaches of the NW, I loved going on a treasure hunt looking for sea glass to put into a vase or jar like precious jewels reflecting the light. Sending you many blessings for your thoughtulness.
