School of Hard Knocks
Still fastened desperately to my childish ways
Could I see the universe expanding?
How in the light of my sheltered world
Or in the dark of a closed mind
Oh....what would a new dawn reveal?
Let me grow....teach me the world, old school of hard knocks
Oh! That I may not deny the pounding
From where the knocking of the door resounds
How from the pit of my faltering mind
As though my wholeness could be packed
Rigid, into that special fragment of my brain
Devoted to old ways....let me not retain
Keep me open...keep me ever learning
Never folding, always growing
Open my eyes and open my ears to the pounding...
Cast mistakes as lessons heard...
Knock my socks off now and again...
So those hard knock sounds, aren't found in vain
