Scattered Dreams
When I wake at midnight
my dreams do scatter.
I lie there and wonder,
will I ever get back to them?
Back to where I was when some
ungodly thing woke me
from my pleasant peaceful slumber.
They scatter to the four corners
of my room to hide in the deep dark
recesses of cobwebs clinging there,
Some scatter and hide beneath the bed
where the dust bunnies rest.
I am fearful of what I may find,
for some dreams are best left hidden
kept in the dark stillness of the night
left to fade into nothingness...best forgotten
for the shadowy things they are.
May pleasant dreams return me to my sleep
for while they scamper about my room
they remain naught but treasured memories.
