Notes About The Poem

Saying Goodbye To Autumn

It seems we said hello, just yesterday
Do you recall the night you came to town?
You blew in silently, I hoped you'd stay
Time really flies when old friends come around

When you leave here, I guess you'll be southbound
I love the pretty blanket left for me
Those yellows mix so well with red and brown
It will make such a treasured memory

Yet when you've gone, how diff'rent things will be
So cold and bare, your warmth will disappear
It happens ev'ry year so let's agree
We'll plan a longer visit for next year

Sweet autumn it is time to say goodbye
I wish you'd come next year about July

Wonderful way to write about Autumn. Let’s have it all in July. Christmas, Fall and them we can push spring forward to December. Winter won’t get a look-in. SuZ

Beautiful, Danny. I just love Autumn and I really miss it too since we don't really have Autumn here in Louisiana. Lovely poem.

Lovely autumn personification - I adore this time of the year - our temperatures don't get hot enough for me to wish autumn was coming earlier lol:-) hugs jan xx

Just as in your picture, today my feet padded on a beautiful blanket of brown leaves. So sad to see them go from the trees. Lovely sonnet Daniel.

Hi Daniel: Speaking as a guy who lives in Florida, I can feel the gust of Autumn in your poetry. Great sonnet!

Such a beautiful sonnet to describe the departure of autumn, Daniel. Loved the "pretty blanket" of leaves of yellow and brown lines! Very lovely, 7!

Thanks Mike. The idea was a poetry challenge and the sonnet was very challenging. Not a common form. I am glad you like it. It took me a while to write and I'm still looking at it like I need to change something.

Thank you, nette. I'm not really ready either. I appreciate the cooler weather but hate to see the harshness of winter. Thanks for dropping by to share a smile:)

The warmth of friendship, whilst the seasoned prosopopeia of your poetry imagines a cool departure, perfectly penned Danny!
