Teddy Kimathi Poet Free verse

Saving Daylight

The guns and rocket launchers
are being fed to the furnace,
to be changed to hoes and rakes.

Military training fields are being changed
to playgrounds and amusement parks for kids;
it doesn't matter the political party
their parents belong.

People are coming together to commemorate
the fallen - rebels, government soldiers, innocent souls,
and brave men and women who fought for peace.

The Nation is chasing away the darkness in her past,
creating a space for daylight in the future; a bright
tomorrow for her sons and daughters.
