Vignette Contest Entry
---
‘What would you like from the shop? Anything since it's New Year's Eve,’ asked Nanna. ‘A Toffee Crisp and some pickled onion Monster Munch,’ I answered, but got a chocolate bar that wasn't a Toffee Crisp. Nanna claimed they didn't sell them. It turned out she hadn't asked because she thought it was a ‘striped paint’ style joke at her expense and didn't want to be shown up asking for toffee crisps. ‘Can I let New Year in?’ I asked. ‘Yes, take Sam by the collar and a piece of bread. Go out the back door and in by the front.’ I felt quite proud being the first over the threshold then straight into the excitement of Auld Lang Syne, joining hands with Nanna and Grandad. ‘For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll drink a cup of kindness yet, for the sake of auld lang syne.’
