Sandwichboard Man

SANDWICH BOARD MAN

His role in the street
Tells everything about
The café nearby
With a painted message
“Eat at Luigi’s”
And a big false hand
In blue plastic, with finger
Pointing to the café

You see only head and feet
Shabby hat and outworn shoes.
All between is hidden -
A walking wooden prism
A wooden prison

He walks to and fro
Never speaking, never smiling
His soul contained
Between two mute boards
Telling nothing of
His role in life
