Sadie
A young cowboy’s money got spent
Just didn’t know where it all went
He thought of the blonde
He’d prob’ly been conned
He smiled and remembered her scent
He never thought much ‘bout money
Most people thought that was funny
He didn’t much care
If she got her share
He would still call her his honey
He worked all day in the saddle
Something always wrong with cattle
The money came slow
But he knew it’d go
Fast as that blonde could skedaddle
But the cowboy loved that lady
Couldn’t think of her as shady
She’d blow in his ear
Say “Sweetie come here”
He just knew that she was his Sadie
Then he rode in early one day
'Cause he still had most of his pay
She sat in the lap
Of Johnny Bodap
She shor’ didn’t know what to say
The cowboy shot Johnny a lot
He killed him right there on the spot
Then they heard him say
“This just ain’t yor’ day –
It has cost you all that you got.”
He’s sittin’ on a jailhouse bed
They said hang him until he is dead
Won’t miss the cattle
Or wore out saddle
But he’s gonna miss Sadie’s bed
The stories abound in our lore
It’s like that now and before
There’s a few ladies
Even some Sadies
That men will just plainly die for…
