Sacred Are the Memories
a baby boy delicate, fragile, delightful
how our hearts hang heavily
obtuse our thinking
depressed and restless, rejecting
rage, rage, intoxication and delirium
why, why did a shard of shrapnel
stab our soldier boy- the truth an awakening
his previous wandering
egregious in a bad, bad way . . .
red roses wrapped in ribbons flutter in the breeze
why help the indigent-
the war-stricken, needy, and poor
I am lost in a sea of stones, stones
wind wails as though weeping like a violin
weaving in the trees . . .
we had to mediate, reconcile, settle
a resting place- for this grown up boy
a place of honor with crosses in rows, rows- endless rows
or consecrate him in this place family blessed
with love for a son and brother- forever engraved in stone
O, why is the grass so green, green in this graveyard
sacred are the memories . . .
