Rumi-Nating Over Poetry

Some praise the work of Rumi They declare him the poetry king But his deep philosophical lines really are not my thing William Shakespeare the Bard of Avon I find that his work is so boring And his use of archaic language has THIS poet snoring Others rate the work of Edgar Allen Poe Who is famous for writing the Raven I find his work depressing, it’s great humour that I’m cravin So when I pop onto Poetry soup For a minute or perhaps an hour And need some witty poetry… I head over to read Ilene Bauer A SOMEWHAT TONGUE IN CHEEK LOOK AT POETRY ... EXCEPT THE FINAL STANZA WHICH IS TRUE AS I HAVE LOVED ILENE'S WORK EVER SINCE I JOINED SOUP 10/18/20

What a wonderful tribute to Ilene, I must say I have not been following her poems, but will from now on. I was never an avid reader of famous poets but find on the soup, what I enjoy reading -understandable poetry! Hugs and blessings, Jennife.r

To true Jan Poetry is hard to define or a personal taste Poetry is much like art and good or great is defined by critical acclaim from so called experts or critic's god only knows who appointed in the 1st place yet who's opinion we are supposed to respect as gospel

Ilene certainly gathers and holds my attention with her humor and 'tell it like it is' manner. Your poem is very entertaining, Jan.

I was never into poetry until I actually started to write back in 2013, however Shakespeare leaves me cold, I much prefer humourous poetry and Ilene is one of my favourite witty poets on the site:-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, I think, if you are like me, it was not really so tongue in cheek. I find shakespere and old English so terribly boring. And I only like reading Poe in those books that abbreviate his work for young people! Ilene is always super duper!

I know there are those who laud these famous poets but it is not to my taste - give me Ilene's poetry any day and of course the works of many super soupers ... but i had to rhyme hour with Bauer lol:-)
