Rooting For 8 To 5

ROOTS

They came seeking a future not their own
carrying naught but memories too soon to fade
into the substance of a union of hearts.
In leaving left the spitting image of themselves
to gather up their memories lest they fade.

Janis, I visited Ellis Island last August. I don't think my parents entered through there but came a little later.

So fitting to the prompt of roots. Sorta reminds me of Joshua and the Twelve Stones from the Jordan. Great read, John, congrats on your work and of course, on the placement.

It is never easy to leave everything and arrive with nothing....We call it the American Dream but it does come with a cost.
