River Storm

Loud claps of thunder introducing torrents of rain Severest river storm I have seen in recent years With broad streaks of lightning lighting the sky, Enough to frighten any timorous chronic worriers Main street has turned into a raging creek bed, Sweeping broken tree limbs into the gutter drains Run-off won’t help farmers in coming days so dry, Such is the case with a summer’s torrential rains Which most of us living near the Ohio truly dread, Especially when accompanied by direct line winds Which can be dangerous like twisters on the plain, But here bring relief, from the heat, as it descends The storms come on so quickly, it hard to explain Loud claps of thunder introducing torrents of rain.

You have described river rains well here! It makes me wonder if you live on the Ohio?

I do. Ashland, Kentucky is right by the Ohio River.

Enjoyed the sonnet, Milt. Seems all things have a plus and a minus to them. Bill

Thank you, Bill. I'm not sure it is a proper sonnet, but I suppose it meets most of the requirements, eh?

Yes Mother Nature can cause terrible damage. Years ago we had two roads and a bridge that was 100 ft in the air wash out. It left a gigantic hole in the road that if anyone would have been there at the exact time it happened, they were most likely to perish. Thanks for sharing Milton and have an enjoyable day.

You, too, Michael. With all of the rain, I worry about rocks falling down into the road from the bluffs. It can and does happen.

One year, the creek across the street, usually calm and unseen, turned into wild rapids! Great imagery…sounds scary indeed!

It can be, indeed, if you live in a low-lying area with a creek in front of or behind your house.

Some parts of Australia are amidst torrential rain and floods; in some areas, it is the third time this has happened in a matter of weeks, and it is still raining. There is no control over Nature. Take care, Milt, Shirley

Well, luckily, our storms just violently pass over in an hour or so. Thanks for the info, Shirley.

Funny, I just put up a terza rima on waiting for rain. It isn't one I'm entering in the contest, mulling that one :-). And, it started raining here minutes ago!

Great minds run in.... I didn't ead your terza rima, but since you're not entering it in the contest I will. Send me a great one, my friend.
