Rippling Wit

Rippling Wit My mind is not that grey I know it all when I say; "He's not of royal birth "Let me toil for his mirth!" * As I lend much time to writ And to its rippling wit, Niceties... this endeavour Will it make him savour? And lackadaisical as I trail Would I elude to fail In peddling this name While Peers bask in fame? * In Ballad and in Sonnet Wide I cast wit's net- In "silent" songs also Am I not creative Calypso! Though' scantly educated By wit I'm inundated- Lo! Out of murk so deep, Pretty mermaids do creep!

It's difficult to write this way but so enjoyable to me. I read it three times while I can scarcely read most others once. I was basically thrown out of my poetry class for archaic writing. The instructor would moan, not another Keats or Yates or Shelley. But that's how it comes. I'm reading more now.

When I was a boy herding cattle, I used to move with, literally, a whip on one hand and Charles Dickens or Thomas Hardy's book on another. As a boy who grew up in the rural community, this interest in great writers landed me into poetry. I can never properly divorce myself from rhyme! I thank you for your comment Mark. Friend,JM
