Caught in the throes of depression he fights an endless battle which makes his life a constant misery. Phantom warriors haunt his mind. High-pitched are their battle cries, severe and persistent. Fatigued he succumbs to their intensity. Roaring on, they launch assault after assault, fully knowing that ultimately a resounding victory will be theirs. Bells ring triumphantly! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - © 11th March, 2017

A brilliant write, Paul. I think your title is ingeniously perfect for the content of your poem with which you write about with intensity and sensitivity. I can't imagine how terrible this condition must be to live with but your last line sums up the debilitation poignantly.. Warmest wishes my friend.. ~Susan

Thank you for the insightful comments, Susan. I wrote this poem for a contest, but I think that the sponsor did not catch on to what I was talking about. ~ warm regards, my friend. // paul

Great job on this challenge. I can't imagine how awful it must feel for people who suffer from Tinnitus. Not an easy job to write a successful poem on this topic. You succeeded and went beyond that goal. Love your poetry.

Your word choice is good and the message sent is strong and emotional, highlighting the futility of existing in a nightmare and calling it a dream. Emile.

Well done Paul. My husband had a brother who heard voices. It was very sad because he was nice enough but had weird thoughts. He could be pretty scary sometimes. He had to be sent away where they could take care of him and he couldn't hurt anyone. You describe this malady well. God Bless and a big 7 from me. JB

Thank you, Judy. Hearing voices must be pretty weird. In the case of Tinnitus the person can hear a sort of continuous ringing, which is enough to send one mad. Others sounds are: roaring, buzzing, and hissing. Regards // paul

Hi Paul:) Interesting write... there are a few things I can think of that he could be suffering from. (I'm sure that's what I look liked like with a migraine! haha) I guess I'm not medically informed enough to understand the connection with bells, but I'm guessing it's an ear related condition? Enjoy your day:)

Sorry about your migraine, Chris. In this case you are right...it's an ear related condition. Ringing (and other sounds) ... TINNITUS. In all my life I only met one person who suffers from this condition, but I understand that it is much more common than that. ~ Have a lovely day:) Regards // paul

It is, Arthur; in this case depression is a side effect of this person's condition. Regards // paul

An important and powerful piece. So many suffer silently, the honesty of your words will hopefully bring awareness to others that they are not alone. Really great writing Paul :-) blessings, lynn
