Revolutionary Days

Dressed for comfort and play worn blue jeans signature red jackets -- as red as the distinctive tricots of revolutionary Bastille days -- their slide whistles shrieking their drums booming defiance chanting slogans blocking rush-hour traffic echoes of 'Madame Guillotine...' These school-teachers turned performance artists torpedo sincere, generous proposals to further the educational and vocational prospects of 360,000 public school students

Hi Gershon, At one point I wanted to be a teacher, but I changed my mind. Teacher do so much but at the same time they're so many restrictions on "what" they can do. I salute teachers worldwide. They are so unappreciated. They prepare our children for the future:-) Alexis

You know, I was a teacher for almost 30 years, and I admire people who veered away from teaching as much as I admire those who stuck it out. Hats off to you, Alexis! Cheers, Gershon

My sister is one of the teachers. We all need to make a line in the Sand and fight for what is right for the future of the children

It's always politics at the top, whereas the teachers would happily be back in the classroom

Lines in the sand, and so too 'virtue signaling,' don't help serious negotiations over sincere, generous proposals. In school politics, as in life, one can't always get what he wants. It's o.k. to shoot for the stars, as long as you can fall back and accept the moon for now. ~ Beleaguered Chicago taxpayer and former 25- year private school teacher, who worked two jobs and didn't make near what Chicago public school teachers average, along with zero benefits (no health insurance, no paid holidays, no sick days, etc.... and never went on strike).
